Dear Landfall Residents,

The North Carolina Severe Weather Preparedness Week, as well as the South Carolina Severe Weather and Flood Preparedness Week, runs from Sunday, March 3 through Saturday, March 9. During the preparedness week, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington and other NWS offices around the Carolinas will be sharing severe weather safety information through social media. Links to the local webpages for both North Carolina and South Carolina are included.

North Carolina: https://www.weather.gov/ilm/severeweathernc

South Carolina: https://www.weather.gov/ilm/severeweathersc

These webpages contain a variety of information regarding severe weather and flooding safety topics, including helpful graphics and links.

The North Carolina and South Carolina Statewide Tornado Drills are scheduled for Wednesday, March 6th. The South Carolina Statewide Tornado Drill will occur at 9:00AM followed by the North Carolina Statewide Tornado Drill at 9:30AM. This is a great time to begin reviewing safety procedures and test your ability to respond to the test Tornado Warning (issued as a Routine Monthly Test product) on March 6th. This is a good time to be sure that any NOAA Weather Radios have new batteries. Please have discussions at home and/or at work about what to do if a tornado threatens your area and be familiar with tornado safety plans.

Please remember that not all weather radios will tone alert for test messages as they would for an actual Tornado Warning. If you are planning to participate in the drill and your radio does not activate when the test message is issued, then you will have to self-activate to start your drill.

While these pages were designed for Severe Weather Preparedness Week, they can be useful year-round.

We hope you find this information helpful.
