LANDFALL COA MAINTENANCE

Current Conditions of Lakes & Ponds

Steve Hughes, Chief of Operations

Good afternoon everyone,

I have received numerous pictures and emails regarding the conditions of the lakes and ponds in Landfall recently. Extremely hot and dry weather conditions, as well as increased water temperatures, are lowering the dissolved oxygen levels in our ponds.  These dangerously low oxygen levels are an increased risk to the fish and other pond life. Even our ponds with fountains and aerators are starting to struggle.

Dissolved oxygen is reduced by the biological decay of organic material such as decaying plants. Oxygen depletions are the most common cause of fish kills.  Trust me we do not want that to happen. That is a smell and site that would make the algae appear attractive.

We are in quite the battle and unfortunately Mother Nature is winning again. She has an amazing winning record no matter how nicely and often I request her help. Although she is winning this battle, she will not win the war; the team is trying everything they can to stay on top of this situation without causing even greater problems. I apologize for the appearance and odor you have been putting up with and ask you to please remain patient as we continue to battle this very unfortunate situation.

Thank you all so very much.
